3. Location data on our charger map
Our website includes a charger finder. If you choose "Use my current location", your browser shares your approximate coordinates with the page so that it can calculate distances and show nearby chargers. This happens in your browser. We do not receive, store or transmit your location to our servers. You can decline the permission request and search by town or address instead.
4. Our lawful basis
We process personal information under section 11 of POPIA on the following bases: performance of a contract with you; compliance with a legal obligation; our legitimate interests in operating and securing the network; and your consent, where we have asked for it.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Our payment provider, to process transactions;
- Our hosting and email providers, to run the website and correspond with you;
- Property partners, in aggregated and anonymised form only, for site performance reporting;
- Law enforcement or regulators, where we are legally required to do so.
6. Services outside South Africa
Our charger map uses map tiles and openly licensed charging-station data supplied by third parties whose servers may be located outside South Africa, including OpenStreetMap and CARTO. Requests your browser makes to these services are subject to their own privacy policies. Where personal information is transferred outside South Africa, we do so in accordance with section 72 of POPIA.
7. How long we keep it
Account and session records are kept for the life of your account and for five years afterwards, in line with tax and financial record-keeping requirements. Enquiry correspondence is kept for two years. We delete or anonymise information once it is no longer needed.
8. Security
Our website is served over HTTPS. Access to personal information is limited to staff who need it. Payment card data is handled entirely by our payment provider and never reaches our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures as required by section 19 of POPIA.
9. Cookies and local storage
Our website uses minimal browser storage — only what is needed for the site to function, such as remembering your filter choices on the charger map. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear this storage through your browser settings at any time.
10. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to: ask what personal information we hold about you; have it corrected or deleted; object to processing; withdraw consent; and lodge a complaint. To exercise any of these, email sales@levelupev.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable period.
You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa):
